I saw a link for a Laughlin tour that was run by Key Tours. I am seriously considering this for a day since we have about run out of new places to see in Vegas. This tour leaves from the Excalibur at 7:45am and returns around 6-6:30 pm . I think it is 5 bucks a person. Has anyone done this sort of thing and is it worth it ? Does anyone know of any other tour companies that do this ? Thanks for any input.

don't do it. long ride each way. waste of a day.

5 bones is a great price! 7 hours or so should be plenty of time to get a good gander of the town. You should sleep like a baby on the return back to Vegas. I don't know of any tour companies. I've always made the drive myself.

We've been to laughlin a couple of times and I'd say its worth the trip for the day. It's about an hour and a half drive down there through some pretty desolate desert at times. A little quieter and slower with a much older clientele but if you've never been there its fine for a good look-see. My wife likes the outlet mall there if you're into that sort of thing. The river walk is nice...something you don't get in Vegas anyway.

We've usually just driven down ourself so don't know what the tour companies do, but 5 bucks is pretty good in my books.

Took the tour a couple of times years back. Nice way to spend a day. We like Laughlin and plan on spending a few days there next month.

Went to Laughlin once, to see Bill Engvall. Don't see any reason to ever return. JMO.

I have been once and stayed a couple of nights. I liked it okay, but just haven't found the time to go back. This was 8 years ago. There were lots of cheap food deals to lure you to the different casinos. Like downtown Vegas, most of them are within walking distance. Harrah's is a hike, however. Lots of low limit gambling, not much else to do except walk the riverwalk.

If you have never been and are looking for something a little less frantic than the strip, I'd say go for it.

Annie,

We love Laughlin.
Here's a post of mine from early last year on Laughlin:

We do Laughlin at least 2-3 times a year.

We drive out from SoCal in just under 4 hours. (that includes several pee breaks)

It is a nice change of pace from Vegas. As has been mentioned, you have the river. There are many water sports/activities to be done. Boating, water skiing, jet skiing, fishing, swimming, etc. Lake Mojave is just a stone's throw from Laughlin, above Davis Dam. Lake Havasu and The London Bridge are just a 45 minute drive away.

You want cheap table games? You got it. $5 blackjack can be found all day, every day. $1-3 craps during the day, $5 craps at night. $1 roulette all the time. Race books offer up all sports and pony betting. This is the main reason I go.

There are good eats. Every trip, the first thing we do, is hit the Mississippi Lounge in the top floor of the Colorado Belle. You can sit at the bar, which overlooks the river, and order all sorts of fresh seafood. We always order up a bucket of fresh shrimp on ice, a bucket of steamed clams, a plate of fresh oysters, garlic bread, and cold bottles of beer. This always gets our trip started out just right. I highly recommend it.
The Range at Harrah's is also nice, as is The Lodge at the River Palms.
There is a fairly new Joe's Crab Shack right outside the Golden Nugget, built on a pier over the Colorado River.
For breakfast, or lunch, across the river, in Bullhead City, is a little place called the Black Bear diner. The portions are HUGE. I mean GIGANTIC. The food is terrific. The service is friendly. This is another standard must do for us every trip.

Many of the casinos have bars overlooking the river, so sitting down for a drink or twenty, is a pleasurable experience. If you want the best Long Island Ice Tea in the state of Nevada, hit the bar in Harrah's just a few steps from the main cage. You will pay $13 each, but you will be feeling NO PAIN after one, and after two, you'll be ready to dance the Macarena.
All other drinks are relatively cheap, as compared to Vegas standards.

There are decent lounge acts to be found at many casinos.
Tarzan's is a hip nighclub at the Golden Nugget. It's a sports bar by day.
There is an outlet mall across from the casinos for those of you who like to crapshop.

Bottom line, do you need to see white tigers, Celine Dion, water fountains, a conservatory filled with icky flowers, or porn slappers? Stay in Vegas.

Do you want to take it easy for a day or two, play cheap table games, enjoy good eats, play on the river, hang with friendly people? Laughlin is a nice little getaway.

Laughlin - It's like you own the place!

Obviously people have differing opinions about Laughlin.
I suggest you take the bus trip and judge for yourself.
Wifie and I love it for a change of pace, much cheaper then Vegas and fairly good gambling. smokin.gif

Thanks for the replies ! It sounds like we just might have to try it out. I can really see us going there sometime instead of Vegas. LOL I love the sights and all but the same old stuff is getting old. However I do LOVE the Bellagio fountains and have to check out at least one fountain show when we go. The tour operates only on Mon, Wed & Fri so we would have to go on Wed of that week which happens to be my birthday. 17.gif Mon & Fri are travel days. Oh yeah we will fit right in with the older clientele. rofl5.gif

Annie,

I also, very much, like Laughlin.

It's much like Vegas about 40-50 years ago.

For the price of one night in Vegas you can spend three in Laughlin - and get a very nice river view room.

Food is much cheaper, and the Salt Grass Steak House in the Golden Nugget is excellent and will not cost you $100 for a steak and a potato.

Also, the "Boiler Room" at the Colorado Belle is excellent for burgers, pizza and micro brews (brews are heavily discounted on - I believe - Wednesdays.)

For me, all that leaves a LOT of money left over for playing penny slots. smile.gif

So I would say a day trip to Laughlin would be more than worth the $5.

Scooby, where in the hell did you find our pic ? rofl5.gif Sometimes when it is freezing in the casino I will have coffee WITH Bailey's in it. tongue.gif

When I vacationed here, coffee and baileys was one of my favorites when waking up drunk and in need of a pick me up to keep going! Mmmmmm......

I inquired some more and a lunch buffet is included . And you just pay the 5 bucks when you get on the bus so it isn't like you are committed to go. Not that 10 bucks would be a big loss laugh.gif

Scoob, did your coffee come with whipped cream on top ? yummmmmmmmmmm

Boiler Room at Colorado Belle, has some of the best pizza I've ever had. Let us know how you enjoy your Laughlin adventure.
