Obviously, with sooooo many hands of blackjack, and so many sessions, this will be tough to remember many details. I wont even go into individual hands, just a few of the more memorable sessions. A couple other things I just wanted to mention. As some of you know, sports betting is my game, my bread and butter. Always has been, always will be. I wont hesitate to lay between 500 to 1000 on a game, if I feel strongly about it. And of course, I LOVE to gamble. With that being said, I bet like a punk when it comes to BJ. I cant really give you a good reason, I just don't have the guts to let loose. I play 25bux a hand. I will double down in the right spots, split, etc, but my bets NEVER go about 50 dollars. I guess I just don't have the mindset? I am always thinking, I gotta save my chips so when the cards go cold, I have some left..that's stupid, but it is what it is. Brett on the other hand, is still a MANIAC. Probably worse than his sports betting. Problem is, BJ wasn't exactly great for him (or me).
First problem I realized was this- I played WAY TOO much BJ on this trip. The reason was simple, really. The sportsbook was too fucking crowded- standing room only!! WTF? We even got our azzes up early each morning, only to be shut out for seats! Bogus! I'm not as young as I use to be (44), therefore I am not standing all day watching hoops! Besides, there were TVs near the tables, so I could have my cake and eat it to.
First session of the trip was our best. I start out with the 25 a hand (of course), and Brett started out with (2) 25s. My first thought was "wow, Brett doesn't bet BJ like he does Hoops. Was I wrong. Within minutes, he was betting blacks- and winning. I was holding my own, I might have won 300 for the session, which was just fine for me. But, watching Brett on a run was classic. The man was a sicko. Before I knew it, the hands were 200 each. That lasted about thirty minutes and soon, 3 and 4 hundred was the norm. The crazy thing was (in my opinion anyway) the way he was tipping!! I may be a bit tight when it comes to tipping dealers, I will admit, but there must be a limit somewhere? Brett was probably up about 1800 or so when all the sudden, not only was he betting like crazy, but tipping like crazy too! He was betting Barneys (Purple chips-500's) and putting out 100 dollar bets for the DEALER??!!! Not just once or twice, but about every 3 hands or so! Are you kidding me?? I said "Brett, what the fuck are you doing"? He reply's "Steve, its not my money, Ive won it"..I say "The fuck its not your money. You can put those chips right over there on your stack- they would fit nicely!". "Not only that, I said, but you may need those blacks when your luck starts changing. He just laughed and kept on betting big, winning big, and tipping big. Life seemed so easy for the both of us. Before I knew it, Brett was betting Big Birds (yellows 1K each)- not exclusively, but more often than any sane man should. It was time for me to take a break, Id been at it for about three hours. I decided to go get some lunch, watch some hoops, and catch up with Brett later. After lunch I actually decided to hit the WYNN poker room, I was there for almost 3 hours. I texted Brett to see where he was, and I was floored to see he was at the same table! Are you kidding me?? Almost 8 straight hours of BlackJack? The man took breaks to bet basketball on his computer, and then , right back to the table.. He ended up netting about 5K for the day in BJ alone. At this rate, he would need a brinks truck for all the cash he was winning. He finally decided to call it day at the tables, we hit the WYNN buffet and had a few drinks at some semi-swanky lounge at the WYNN. Hooker at the Wynn did her damnest to get with both of us. We even told her we were on the way to the Mandalay bay, her reply, "no problem, My car is valeted, I can give you a ride, we can hang out there for a while. Brett whispered to me that she wasn't his type..Well, she was good enough for me- that's for sure! But, instead of doing a "hit it and quit it" or a "I cum, you go" we both just decided to leave that alone..damn- maybe next time?ha
What goes up, must come down!? The next session of BJ (next afternoon) was UGLY. Had I been betting big, I woulda lost my whole roll. I swear I might have set a record for the most hands lost in a row. Brett was doing a bit better, but not much. After maybe two hours, Brett hit a bad streak- real BAD. This man hardly ever loses his cool or curses at the table, but he was on this day. "Unbelievable, are you fucking kidding me, Fuck ME, etc etc etc"..And of course, before you knew it, out came the Barneys and the Big Birds. Brett wanted to turn the tide, to get his money back. That DIDN'T happen. In fact, the dealer actually stopped dealing for a minute, looked right at Brett and said "Mr. Jones, take a step back, take a breather, this is how they build these casinos, from people who lose their cool, etc etc". I agreed with her, and also told Brett he was on TILT and needed a break. Brett of course, is a bull-headed maniac. He kept right on betting Barneys and BigBirds. The strange (and frustrating) part about this was, Brett was losing so much money, I didn't really realize how much money I was LOSING! I did, but it almost felt like I was winning because I was losing so much less?!!? Not good! When it was all said and done, I had lost about 1K and Brett lost about 9K!!!!! (5K in chips he had from the day before and 4K in cash)!!! OUCH!! This was the last session we actually played together for more than a few hours. The rest of the trip, we would occasionally play on the same table for a while, than one of us would move to another or something. I just didn't want to watch him lose that big again- plus throw in the fact I still had to play poker, bet hoops, etc etc etc.
Overall I probably lost about 15 hundred on BJ for the 4 days..Brett says he netted 8k for the trip- and we know he won 17k at the book, (didn't play anything else) which means he lost about 9thousand bux playing BJ!! Ouch. When we checked out of the hotel, they gave Brett his stats- I was floored by the numbers!! He was at the tables for 36 hours and an average hand rate of 280 bucks per hand!! Oh my, we weren't even there 4 days (about 90hours) -that's a lot of B J!!!
*Brett gave me some advise when we arrived at Encore. "whatever food you want, make sure you go to a restaurant in the WYNN or Encore, then charge it to our room- they will take care of us". Sure enough, when checking out, our food/drink bill came to 1300 dollars. They took care of it all- very nice. I could really get use to this high-roller stuff!
