Full Version: Dealer error

A couple of months ago I was in Mississippi playing at an Indian casino there. It was a game based on Texas Hold 'em, each player playing against the dealer as in blackjack. There was an ante, a bonus, a flop, turn, and river bet. The dealer was supposed to compare his hand to each player. Since I play a lot of poker, it wasn't difficult to follow for me. But the dealer was having a difficult time. He was having to look at several different hands and figure the best one. One time he mistakenly figured me for a pair when the card I matched was not on the board, but in his own hand, and paid me off.

The guy next to me's eyes got wide as we looked at each other, but neither of us said anything. Lowlimit says I should have fessed up, but I figured I was losing money anyway, so why not just take it this time? I figure it evens out when you consider I might miss one he should have paid me on after they have plied me with a few free drinks.

What do you think?

I think that you shouldn't play carnival games!

I keed!

I think that it all washes. They inadvertently take from you, they inadvertently give to you.

Much different situation then a cashier at the grocery store giving you wrong change. I always will give them back the over payment.

Actually according to the Wizard of Odds, if I am reading it correctly, the odds aren't too bad. The first time I played I got on a winning streak and with several $5 bets out there at once, it piles up in a hurry! Of course, the reverse is also true.
Big Tip
Was it "Texas Hold'em Bonus"?

Not all new games screw the player. The Wizard says that Black Jack Switch isn't a terrible game either.

I think it was. It had a side bet that must have been the bonus. I think it paid 30-1 for pocket aces and went down the pair rankings and paid a few non pair hands like AK and AJ, as best I can recall. I think the ante didn't pay off if you won the hand on anything lower than a flush, but was a push on hands lower than that.

I did actually get pocket aces once, but as I had only bet $1 I only won $30 on it.

BTW, I remember you telling me at a Meet one time that Blackjack Switch WAS a bad game and you couldn't understand why Mikey was playing it at CR! Similar to the carnival game comment above! wink.gif

No, he and Pish were sitting at a (hold on to your sphincter) a 6/5 double deck game!

BUT the dealer did have a lovely chestle area. It's all about entertainment value!

I would have fessed up..not because I am mr. honest, its just a Karma thing with me..I have many superstitions while gambling, that would have jinxed me for sure!!

Dont you use the martingale system in blackjack?

I wouldnt make fun of someone playing carnival games if I were you

(zip, whoosh)

Whoa. I almost got hit there! Glad I have cat-like reflexes.

Brian, you are slipping. You forgot to use an "f' bomb in your post.

It was supposed to be a joke, not making fun of me.

It's the player's responsibility to keep alert and make sure the casino doesn't shortchange him on a payoff, or take his money when it should be a push/win for the player.

It's the house's responsibility to make sure they take the player's money when they 're supposed to.

If you feel uncomfortable being silent when the house makes a mistake in your favor, then by all means tell them - as long as it doesn't effect anyone else at the table. Don't tell the dealer he didn't bust when he's about to pay off everyone else.

laugh.gif Holy crap! That would endear you to the table wouldn't it? laugh.gif

Thank heavens I've never seen that. I have enjoyed smiling, guilty glaces, with fellow players when a dealer does pay the table incorrectly though.

I only feel a slight twinge of guilt.

Then a millisecond later I recall how much money I have dropped in casinos over the years, and I'm good to go! biggrin.gif

I have, too many times. And I don't want to generalize, but all the times I've seen it, it has been by an elderly, white female player. One time at Tropicana I recall another playing getting upset and the lady saying if he wanted to steal, he should go rob a bank!

I had a Beginner? dealer at Casino Royale dealing 3 card Poker.
He was making alot of mistakes.
I didn't leave the table because it was a really fun table w/ this beautiful
athletic softball chick playing !
I had my Whoopie Whistle going + the table loved it !....chicks too !
.
Dealer mispays me....in my advantage.......HELL ! I ain't sayin' Nutting !
.
One hand later -
A Pit Stiff says to me "You were payed off on a losing bet....give us $10 BACK"
I was drunk .......I wanted no trouble.......I said "Oh ?....would you be paying me if the dealer shorted me ? "
NO ANSWER.........I pony-d up.
.
Take the money + run............unless you're a "regular" w/ that bartender / host/ dealer !
