After seeing the musical twice, I decided to read the book, Wicked, and it was a very interesting read. The author explores the fine line that can separate the differences and struggles between good and evil; and the underlying results in social society, politics, religion, business, education, and friendships as pertaining to life and death. "It can get a little "preachy" at times, but it causes one to think about ones own relavence to life and society as a whole.

I did find the script for the musical took a lot of dramatic license with the story, but I think most of them do, to make it a better fit to the stage.

The author also other books showing the other side of the story of popular books made into movies such as Mirror, Mirror and The Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister.

I tried to like the books in the Wicked series but I just never could get into them. I didn't think that hard about it, but now that you mention it, maybe it was the "preachy" theme that turned me off.
Bobster
I enjoyed the musical.

Indigo, I struggled with it too, but I thought there was very good character development. Also, I found it a difficult read at times, because I felt he was making up his own words and language, which I found hard to follow. I preferred the ending in the musical.

Bobster, I enjoyed the musical also.

Well, I got the other 2 books in the Wicked series for Christmas. Reading Son of a Witch now. It is an interesting read, but again can be difficult at times.

challenging stuff for sure-a plodding pace at times---but still rewarding. Unlike some books you gotta work through them. At times I was tempted to get the audiobooks---I've heard snippets sounds quite good.

IMO--still superior to the stage productions-- and I've seen two different companies---less fluff. Most people who see the play could never-ever get through the books.

You have to admire the way he stood the entire "Oz" mythos on its head.

He has great character development in these books. After seeing the musical twice and only a little over half done with 2nd book, I believe the musicial combines characters and scenarios from both books.

These books really make you think, and even question your own beliefs. And the correlation to different events throughout history lends a great understanding of how we arrived at where we are at this point in our own history.
